dr. Irvin anthony gabourel, m.d.
Dr. Irvin Anthony Gabourel obtained his Medical degree from San Carlos University in Guatemala City in 1991, returning to Belize as a general practitioner to work at the Belize City Hospital until 1994 when he joined the Belize Defense Force as a Medical Officer with the rank of Captain. In 1997 he received a scholarship to the University of the Mexican Armed Forces returning home in 2001 as the first Belizean resident Gastroenterologist. In 2009 after reaching his retiring age with the title of Force Medical Officer and the rank of Lt Colonel.
Dr. Gabourel went on to the private sector as a Gastroenterologist, opening the first privately owned facility offering both advanced endoscopic procedures and minimally invasive surgeries with state of the art equipment and technology.

Dr. Gabourel's philosophy has always been to develop the practice of medicine in Belize so that not one patient will ever need to travel abroad. This is exactly what he has done!
In 2015, Dr. Gabourel at Belize Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Center noted that patients would come in and would need multiple services from his clinic, they would then get discharged and go to another hospital to get further treatment. In essence, he was doing all the groundwork!
This didn't bode well with him and his team, and as well rounded healthcare providers that they are; Dr. Gabourel’s Gastro and Endoscopy Center evolved into a full fledged Specialists Hospital. They wanted to fill the gap in medical specialties and be able to offer other services other than just Gastroenterology which in itself services a lot of diseases.
Belize Specialists Hospital has the country’s ONLY ISO (International Standard of Operation) operating theatre. With this they were able to branch out to more high-tech surgeries. They went from Gastro Intestinal surgeries to knee replacement, hip replacement, Kidney Stones Removal, Urology, Neurosurgery, Internal Medicine, Bariatric Surgery for Weight reduction and more.
